Chaos Week: Injuries, Suspensions, and Contract Bombshells
Fireworks on and off the field — from eye injuries to holdouts, here’s what it all means for fantasy.
From fireworks mishaps to felony charges, this past week has been a whirlwind of breaking NFL news — and fantasy managers everywhere are left wondering: Does any of this actually matter for my team?
That’s what this newsletter is here for.
We’re cutting through the chaos and focusing on what’s actionable. Injury updates. Suspension windows. Contract disputes. Big-time extensions. All with one lens: how it affects your fantasy squad.
Let’s get into it.
🛑 Injury + Off-Field Incidents: What You Need to Know
Najee Harris (Eye Injury)
Najee Harris has "sustained a superficial eye injury" from "a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees." However, he "is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season." Per Harris' agent Doug Hendrickson. There are still many unanswered questions, but we know for sure that Harris will miss some of training camp.
🧠 Fantasy angle: Najee Harris’ role for the Chargers this season was a question to begin with, as the experienced RB that they hope to mentor their first round pick Omarion Hampton, his snap% is unknown however, whatever it was, it will certainly be lower as he will miss some of training camp giving rookie Hampton RB1 reps. He wasn’t one of my favorite players to begin with, but now I would probably avoid Harris, especially in dynasty.
Quinshon Judkins (Arrest + Contract Holdout)
Judkins was detained on a domestic battery accusation, and while he hasn’t been formally charged, the details in the police report are serious. A no-contact order is in place, and the victim intends to move forward with prosecution. He’s still unsigned, giving the Browns time to assess the situation. The NFL is expected to investigate, and a suspension remains a likely possibility.
🧠 Fantasy Angle: It’s still quite early to know what’s going to happen. Like the Rashee Rice situation, Judkins may not be sentenced for a while, and therefore, his NFL suspension may not come until next season. This is all assuming a contract with the Cleveland Browns is agreed to, which I think will be without any guaranteed money. Long story short, I’m buying the dip in dynasty, and if he falls enough, I’ll draft him in redraft.
Jordan Addison (No Contest Plea for DUI)
Jordan Addison recently accepted a plea deal, pleading no contest to a “wet reckless” charge — a reduced DUI with acknowledgment that alcohol was involved. This avoids a jury trial and triggers standard sentencing: 12 months probation, a $390 fine, and mandatory programs. Because of the alcohol element and the league’s policy, Addison is likely facing a 2–3 game suspension.
🧠 Fantasy Angle: A 2-3 game suspension isn’t the end of the world, so I would continue to draft him in redraft leagues. If a dynasty manager wants to get out, I would be happy to buy Addison’s elite talent.
Rashee Rice (Sentencing + NFL Suspension Looming)
Rashee Rice pled guilty to two felony charges tied to his March 2024 car crash but received deferred adjudication—meaning the charges will be dismissed if he completes probation and other conditions. Given the nature of the case, Rice is not expected to face the NFL’s standard 6-game suspension. Based on precedent and league policy, a 2–4 game suspension is the likely outcome, but 6 games is still a possibility.
🧠 Fantasy Angle: After being injured in week 4 for the entire season, he’s going to miss at least 2 games due to suspension this season, and I know many people are high on him, but for me, the risk just isn’t worth it. I like him a little bit more in Dynasty because he shows a lot of promise, and if a dynasty manager wants to sell him low enough, I would be happy enough to buy him. As for redraft, I will definitely be avoiding him.

📢 Contract Drama + Holdouts
Jauan Jennings (Wants Trade or Extension)
Jauan Jennings’ current contract is set to pay him 7.5 million dollars this year, but has made it clear that he either wants a new contract or a trade. He is hoping for over 20 million a season, so a deal is unlikly to a this will probably end in a trade. Some interested team include the Patriots, Steelers, and Commanders (see below).
Terry McLaurin (Frustration Mounting)
Terry McLaurin, amid negotiations for a contract extension he told reporters, "I've been pretty frustrated, I'm not gonna lie," "Everything that has transpired up to this point has been disappointing and frustrating. I've wanted to continue my career here.” A trade was being speculated; however, it has been recently made clear that the commanders do not intend on trading McLaurin, and a deal can be made a soon as Monday.

💰 Mega Contract Tracker: Fantasy Relevance
Garrett Wilson (Jets) – 4-year, $130M extension that includes $90M guaranteed. Locked in until 2030. Definitely a boost for Garrett Wilson📈.
T.J. Watt (Steelers) – 3-year, $123M extension that includes $108M guaranteed. If you are in an IDP league, this news certainly matters and will give T.J. Watt a boost📈.
Sauce Gardner (Jets) – 4-year, $120.4M extension that includes $60M guaranteed. Not super fantasy relevant however with the Jets completing 2 massive signings worth over $250M for the next 4 years, there might not be any money left for Breece Hall next season. I would sell him before his value drops around his uncertain future 📉.
Trey Smith (Chiefs) – 4-year, $92M contract extension that includes $70M guaranteed. Secures a guard who plays a pivotal role in protecting Patrick Mahomes, a boost for him📈.
🧠 For you statheads out there, these contracts broke 3 NFL records:
Sauce Gardner became the highest-paid CB in NFL history
TJ Watt has become the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history for the second time in his career
Trey Smith has become the highest-paid guard in the NFL
💭 The Final Fumble
The NFL never sleeps — and neither should you. Whether it’s injuries, legal drama, or surprise signings, staying ahead means reacting fast and adjusting smarter. This week reminded us that dynasty value isn’t just about talent — it’s about timing, context, and clean off-field resumes.
A fireworks mishap, a domestic battery detainment, multiple wide receiver suspensions and contract standoffs — and oh yeah, a few record-breaking deals thrown in too. Chaos? Sure. Opportunity? Always.
Stay ready. Stay flexible. Stay one step ahead. Let the rest of your league sleep on the news cycle.
See you soon!
